Today, on 31 of August 2025, I had a lovely walk at Vetal Tekdi, Pune, with expert birders and founders of the Pune Birding Community. Saw many lifers like Common Woodshrike - perfectly blended in its habitat, Common Iora - with its bright contrast plumage and melodious calls, Gray-breasted Prinia - with a flock of Scaly-breasted Munias. Heard multiple calls of Common Hawk-cuckoo, also a lifer, and loud calls of Jungle Prinia. Got a fantastic view of a male Plum-headed Parakeet, showing its plum head and bluish tail. Had a fleeting glimpse of Common Kingfisher in flight. Saw a Sunbird in its eclipse plumage. Saw many Indian Spot-billed Ducks foraging and in flight. Saw Little Grebes showing their heads for a couple of moments and diving in. Saw Red-wattled Lapwing in the Quarry, foraging around the waterbody. Saw Baya Weavers, female feeding a hungry juvenile. Also got to see Asian Green Bee-eater at eye-level, sitting quite close. The walk ended on a colourful note with a sighting of Indian Peafowl feeding on grains. Thanks to everyone for helping with the bird identification on the walk!
